At the outset of the Battle of Britain, it became apparent that the anti-aircraft gunners, pilots, observers, etc. Could not tell, from a distance, whether or not an aircraft was a "friend or foe". Kits such as these were provided to high school shop students in Great Britain and the USA to build aircraft identification models that could be used to learn the silhouettes of important aircraft.

It was also a way for students to feel involved in the war effort. From original WWII drawings, with additional instructions and assembly photo sheet, these kits are made from solid balsa and take dedication and skill to build. Completed, they are true works of art. Most should be able to build one in 8 to 10 hours.

Tools required are a coping saw and whittling knife. Airplane kits included are P-51 Mustang, A6M "Zero", Spitfire, and Bf (or Me) 109. As a bonus, a deck of genuine.

Brand spotter playing cards is included with each kit. These cards feature silhouette images of Allied and enemy aircraft in use during WW II. These decks were designed to be entertaining as well as educational. The images depict a front, side and bottom silhouette of the aircraft, the view ground observers, pilots, and gunners would be most likely to see.
